Do you remember how Noah and his family boarded the boat that Noah himself had built? People laughed at Noah, but now those people are no longer here. They did not believe Noah's message because they were wicked.

Noah, his family, and all the animals sat in that boat surrounded by water for 370 days—more than a year. After so long, they surely longed to play outside, to run, jump, and skip. God understood this. He stopped the rain and the springs of water, and caused strong winds to blow the water away. The boat remained stuck on a mountain for another 40 days, but eventually the earth became dry.

God said, "Go outside—Noah, your wife, your sons with their wives, and let all the animals come out of the ark too." There were no children, but I imagine they would have cheered, "Yippee! It’s so nice to be outside!"

The grown-ups were happy to walk the earth again, grateful to have been saved and not drowned with the wicked. Those 370 days in the boat were indeed a very long time.

During that time, they worked hard feeding and caring for the animals and cleaning the pens. But now, their feet were back on the earth, and the animals wanted to go outside too. Just look—they’re coming: the fox, the goat, the giraffe, the chickens...

God said He wanted people and animals to multiply again so that the earth would be full of life once more.

Noah was grateful to God for their salvation and the safe journey of the boat. So, he built an altar and offered animals to God. He chose those animals from the clean ones—seven males and seven females—that God had said they were clean.

Noah and his family stood around the altar to say "thank you" to God. This made God happy, and the people were happy too. God said, "How delicious that offering smells!" He was pleased with Noah’s act.

Then God said, "I will never again punish the earth by letting all people drown. I promise that." That is a covenant—a promise or agreement. God knows mankind has become wicked because they chose Satan (the serpent) instead of Him. Yet He will continue to seek what is good for people. He promises that as long as the earth exists, there will be time to sow and reap, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night. This will always remain true. God kept His promise then and will continue to do so.

God blessed Noah and his sons and said, "Make sure children are born and that the earth becomes full of life again."

God says that people are sometimes afraid of animals and birds, and even of small creatures that crawl across the earth and fish. This fear is a result of sin. God had not intended it to be this way.

Animals may be used for food, as well as the vegetables that grow on the earth. But people must not eat meat that still contains blood.

You are not allowed to murder another human being. If you do, you have earned the death penalty. People are made to resemble God, so when they harm others, it is as if they are causing God pain.

God made this covenant not only with Noah but also with his descendants.

God gave a sign to prove His promise is true: the rainbow. Before the flood, it never rained; the earth was dampened by dew, so people did not know about rainbows. But they found the rainbow beautiful and special. I think so too! Every time I see that colorful arc, I think, "God is thinking of us!" How about you? Do you also thank God when you see the rainbow?

6.  What should happen if someone murders another person? (The murderer must also be killed. Unless he is truly repentant and asks God for forgiveness. Jesus bore the death penalty on the cross.)

7 . Was the promise (the covenant) intended only with Noah?  (No, also with his descendants.)

8.  What other promise had God given? (that as long as the earth exists, there will be time to sow and reap, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night. This will always remain true. )
10.  Why are God's promises much better than those of men?  (People cannot always be trusted, or they forget what they have promised. But God is completely trustworthy; He does what He says and what He promises.)
